Eliana Balla

Lead Financial Economist

Eliana Balla is a lead financial economist and team leader. Her work involves financial institutions’ quantitative surveillance, stress testing and model validation. She joined the Richmond Fed after completing her doctorate in economics and has written extensively about banking, capital regulation and risk management. Recently, Balla’s applications include studies on bank failures, systemic risk and bank reserves for loan losses.

Balla received her bachelor’s degree from American University in Bulgaria and her master’s and doctoral degrees from Washington University in St. Louis.
