Thu., June 20, 2019
2 p.m. - 3 p.m. CT

Workers and employers are both facing a growing skills gap in the labor market. Employers are struggling to find workers with the new and expanding skill sets required in a changing economy. Workers often have difficulty assessing what skills are in demand, the potential returns of training programs, and how to demonstrate the skills they have to an employer. This webinar will explore new perspectives and innovative strategies for closing the skills gap to the benefit of both workers and employers.

In this webinar, two authors will discuss highlights from their contributions to Volume 2 of Investing in America’s Workforce: Improving Outcomes for Workers and Employers. The goal of this publication is to reframe workforce development efforts as investments that provide returns to workers, businesses, and communities as a whole.

Employers, workforce development intermediaries, chambers, business support organizations, and community development practitioners.

The agenda for this webinar includes:

  • Janet Boguslaw, from Brandeis University, will draw on her chapter "How Workforce Investments Leverage and Create Employee Value" to discuss new approaches to investing in workers that can increase firm competitiveness and community stability.
  • Steven Dawson, Senior Advisor, National Fund for Workforce Solutions, will explore the opportunities for improving the quality of jobs for workers and employers in the current tight labor market based on his chapter “Now or Never: Heeding the Call of Labor Market Demand.”
  • Stuart Andreason, from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, will moderate.
